Kathy Li Is Our New Managing Director!

The Playwrights Foundation recently named Kathy Li as the new Managing Director. Kathy, a bilingual theater artist from Shanghai, recently graduated from Yale with an MFA in Theater Management. Most recently, she served as the associate managing director for Yale Repertory Theatre and for Yale Cabaret and produced five plays while in graduate school. Li previously worked for the Shanghai Cultural Exchange Agency to present international theatre and dance for Shanghai International Arts Festival

In a statement for American Theatre, artistic director, Amy Mueller articulates: “I am very fortunate that Kathy Li will join our staff as managing director and partner with me to build our administrative capacity. As a young leader of color who is dedicated to a career in the theatre, she is well positioned to usher in an exciting new era in support of 21st-century writers.”

Kathy Li started her new job just in time for the 41st annual festival. In an interview for Broadway World, she says: “I’m thrilled to be here in time for BAPF’s amazing lineup of new plays and special events this year. I’m deeply impressed by Playwrights Foundation’s dedication to supporting playwrights, and I’m very excited to join this beloved organization at a time of capacity building. I look forward to working with the amazing team at Playwrights Foundation and joining the vigorous, diverse, and welcoming theater community of San Francisco Bay Area.”

Kathy Li holds curiosity and open mindedness as her core values as a leader. We are beyond ecstatic to usher in the next era of new play development under Li’s leadership.
