Playwrights Foundation builds a discerning and diverse pool of theater makers to join our National Reading Committee each year for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival selection process. In recent years, 600 playwrights submit their work to the festival and over 150 readers join us to evaluate and select the winning scripts.

If you are a theater artist, producer, or literary manager invested in the world of new plays, we want your voice in our selection process! Practitioners in all phases of career development are encouraged to apply.

Compensation: While we wish it could be more, Playwrights Foundation offers readers $5 per script reviewed. We ask for script readers to commit reviewing between 6 to 9 applications at minimum, so readers can expect an honorarium of at least $30-45. We’re deeply grateful to our community of readers who help select the plays for BAPF each cycle.

To express your interest in joining the National Reading Committee for BAPF47 and to stay updated on festival dates and timelines, please email a brief summary of your interest and relevant experience, along with your resume, to literary@playwrightsfoundation.org by October 21, 2024. The National Committee review for BAPF47 will take place from October 2024 through January 2025, followed by the Literary Council review, which will extend into the spring.
